So You Need a New Cycling Bicycle?

Many reasons will push you to choose a bicycle as a new mode of transportation. Many of these reasons are not at all related with how you like to travel. Engaging in exercise is one of the overwhelming reasons that a large number of individuals choose to go cycling. Others go cycling because they compete in it as a sport. Still others ride bicycles as a hobby because they enjoy the feeling of riding a bicycle around their neighborhood. No matter your reason for needing to choose a bicycle, you need to consider a number of different things in order to choose the one that is right for you. These tips are intended to help you along your way.

Fashion really does get involved when you make a choice. Our preferences are reflected in color and style choices. These preferences must be listened to when getting your next bike. Obviously, the style and fashion elements of the bicycle should not be your top priority (unless the bicycle is just for show). You really need to look at safety and comfort issues before any others. But once you have found the safest and most comfortable bicycles, there is no reason you shouldn’t narrow down your choice further by how the bike appeals to you visually.

Be cautious, however, and always be sure to test the bike out before you buy it. It is important that you not buy anything before you’ve had the opportunity to ride it at least for a few minutes. This makes perfect sense because you know you'd never buy a car without test driving it first.

Why wouldn’t you do the same with a bicycle? You really need to do this if you are going to spend a lot of money link on the bicycle, and if you are going to ride the bicycle a lot. Choose the bicycle that you know will fit you. There shouldn't be a problem in making the decision on whether or not the bike is the right size for you, but you should also keep in mind that it needs to fit your riding style as well. You wouldn't want to waste money on a bicycle you don't enjoy riding.

It is important that you allow adequate room between you and the crossbar. When choosing a bike move the seat so it is a couple of inches above the crossbar. Sit on it and make sure you can rest your feet flat to the ground. Each type of bike requires different clearances. For example a touring bike will require around an inch. With a mountain bike however you will need some more, 3 inches should suffice.

When looking for a bike your main goal is to find one that suits you physically. That is the primary goal of anyone who chooses cycling as their primary form of transportation. You need to feel safe but also comfortable on your bike, otherwise you won't enjoy riding it!
